Music is one of the pillars that makes up the unique structure of Ciboney Centre for Excellence. Each child, from the Nursery class through to the Primary class, receives a music lesson daily - singing songs from around the world, playing percussion instruments, and learning to move to various types of music.
Children in the Multiage and Primary classes also receive instruction in playing the recorder, ukulele, steel pan, vocal training through the choir, as well as music theory and composition.
Students in the Secondary receive three hours of music a week, learning a range of musical instruments whilst working to form a band. Instrument variety includes flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, drums and saxophone.
Students receive weekly art lessons where they explore the works of various artists, as well as multiple styles of art. Our students participate in a variety of art competitions that occur throughout the territory and beyond. Numerous students have won art awards in the annual Garden Club poster competitions, the National Parks Flower show competition, and more. In 2011, they received an Honourable Mention at the first annual Chair-ity auction, and took second place honours in 2014.
We believe that yoga is a great way to relax the body, soul, and mind. Students in the Early Years, Multiage, and Primary classes participate in yoga sessions once a week where they learn the value and physical benefits of stretching and relaxing their minds.
Spanish is the Foreign Language we teach at Ciboney. Students in the Early Childhood Programme are exposed to the language through songs and interactions with teachers. In the Elementary school, students receive one hour of instruction a week, with the Secondary receiving 1.5 hours a week.
